Admin Panel Comment Reply Plugin

NOTE: I have a new beta version that adds new comments by owner directly into the database from the management page. This has only been debugged at my site! You are welcome to use this at your own risk, please let me know of any bugs or issues you find, so I can fix them!

This version adds popup submit boxes after each approved comment, for the author to quickly add in their own comments in response while remaining on the Dashboard Comments page. I use this at my own site, and it seems to be working, of course I don’t get nearly as many comments as others do, so it may not yet be exhaustively tested.

The original version, just adding a link, is still available.

This is a small plugin that allows you to go directly to the reply section of a post via the Comments

  1. Download the zipped file to your plugins directory and unpack. You should have a new directory containing the relevant files now.
  2. Activate the plugin from the Plugins panel.

Features

This is a drop in plugin, there are no additional files to edit. It only needs to be activated (or deactivated). Once activated, the new links should appear in the Admin Panel’s Comments->Comments page under each comment excerpt.

This plugin might not play well with other plugins that modify this page (edit-comments.php) extensively. I’d be happy to work on making it compatible if that’s the case and it’s possible to do.

Remarks

This plugin is in beta stage, and very simple. The idea here is that it’s crazy for a WordPress admin to have to go view the post, scroll down past the comments to where the reply-box is, to reply to a comment on that page. Ideally, all the work should be done within the page. This plugin is a first cut at resolving this problem. However, it takes the simple expedient of adding a link directly to the post’s reply-box. The next version is planned to open up a reply-box on the same page, without ever leaving it. However, I wanted to be sure the basic underlying structure worked before proceeding. I have further comments and remarks on developing this plugin here.

Any feedback or commentary are appreciated. Please let me know if you have any problems installing it, find bugs in it, or have suggestions!
