What about regional settings/restrictions on websites? Do you know of any way around viewing if you are not in the specified area?

I agree with you regarding the regional preferences. You don't have them on CD's, why do we need them on DVD's. And don't get me started on TV networks.

Hopefully one day this will get sorted out.

Good post.

And things are about to get that much worse. The "Communications, Consumer's Choice, and Broadband Deployment Act" is about to add a digital key to all digital broadcasts in the US. That's HDTV, digital radio and digital cable as well as over the air Television broadcasts. This signal will be used in all modern equipment to indicate when recording will not be allows. Bye Bye DVRs. So, for example, if you are not going to be home to watch the next episode of American Idol, 24 or Lost, well that's just too bad. And that football game? forgetaboutit.

There's an easy way for US citizens to submit a letter to their represenative, here: https://secure.eff.org/site/Advocacy?JServSessionIdr003=fe649bcuc1.app6a&cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=223

And just in case you're thinking that analog will be the safe bet once again, that's covered under a different bill: http://www.eff.org/IP/analoghole/

And you've just got to watch The Corruptables: http://www.eff.org/corrupt/
